I hate first dates, fact. They're pit of the stomach nauseating in the build-up and sometimes just plain awkward! However, it doesn't help that I have a pretty male sense of humour at times. (Does not go down well, believe me. Wish I was sweet and charming!) Looking all pretty then exclaiming, "waaaay, that's what she said!" generally keeps me staring down from that dusty shelf. Hey, I make myself laugh, and that's all that matters(should really start a cat breeding program though. I think it's time!).
Then there's the game that begins if the man in question has tolerated the ridiculousness that's come out of your mouth, and you genuinely like each other. Playing it cool and trying not to look super keen. Argh! It drives me mental. Just text or call me! Look like a keen bean, I don't care. Because all I want to do is text or call you... And I'm not even going to talk about the bit where you stalk ALL forms of social media like a total nut job and get completely paranoid! Why do we go so crazy? We're mostly cool calm and collected. Especially us ladies in our 30s. We've dealt with enough game playing players to know the score. So why, why, why?
Anyway, a poor soul had the pleasure (hah) of my company last week. Going out for dinner (I normally don't do dinner on a first date. Eating in front of someone you're attracted to isn't the one. Yes I'm weird! But this was a special case) on Friday night and drinks locally. A causal but like I'd made an effort look was required, so I wore a black jersey dress from Topshop with sheer polka dot tights, Chelsea boots and a leather jacket. Though I unfortunately had to take my crutches along as I'm still very much a hop along. (Who knew bones took so god damn long to heal! Coming up five months! I'm not impressed. Not sure anyone can style that crap out - I looked like a top notch invalid. Such a quality date right now! Got way more than he bargained for.)
In order to distract from the peg leg, pretty easy going make-up was required. Which went as follows: Steam Cream and a good old prime with Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer. Always starting with the eyes, opting for a simple smoky eye in khaki green with gold highlights at the inner corners. I used Relvon Colourstay Smoky Shadow Stick 205 Atomic, and Jemma Kidd Make Up School Define Stay-Put Eyeliner in Kingfisher to define my peepers. I finished with coats and coats of Revlon Lash Potion mascara (about four).
Using Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Santa Fe I added a touch of Revlon Photo Ready Skinlights Face Illuminator 200 Pink Light Clair Rose to cheekbones and the bridge of my nose. Then Jemma Kidd Make Up School Perfect Tan Bronzing Trio here and there, and a sweep of stila Custom Color Blusher in pink on the apples of my cheeks - I wanted to look fresh and radiant. Which was actually really hard after the longest week in the world. Tired didn't cover it. Anyway, I then fixed everything up with Bare Minerals Illuminating Mineral Veil.
Eyebrows were defined in Jemma Kidd Make Up School Brow & Eye Kit and lips glossed up with Nivea Lip Butter, and I was hot to trot.
Looking none too shabby and hopefully acceptable, the young man in question was a mega gent and held my crutches. Pretty sure that makes him a keeper, right?
