Tested: Skin Pep Brightening Enzyme and Acid Peel

I love the word peel, bringing with it delicious connotations of freshly revealed new skin and a shiny, bright complexion, so I was chuffed when this product turned up in a beauty box I received last month.

I am a bit scared of looking like SATC’s Samantha after hers though (remember the lace headdress) so I am more than a little cautious about masks that claim to have acid peels within them.

Claiming to be a ‘professional salon grade protein’ the mask aims to target darks spots, dissolve dead skin and leave the face exfoliated when used twice a week.

When you first put the, fresh-smelling mask on, it rapidly causes a tingling sensation on the skin, almost certainly the results of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which include Glycolic Acid and Lactic acid (peeling agents basically).

This is pleasant enough if like me you have the skin of a particularly hardened rhino, however those with sensitive or allergy prone skin would definitely need to give this product a swerve, or risk major reactions.

After five minutes, if you want an especially deep cleanse, you can reactive the dried mask with water, which is clever and advisable for those with skin a little more prone to oil.

After using Skin Pep's peel I found my skin clearer and brighter, and my pores definitely looked tighter. The effect lasted about 36 hours so a fairly good result and I would imagine long terms results would be good. My only real concern would be that this products strength could very easily lead to over-exfoliation and damaged dermal layers as a result. Do NOT overdo the product and make very sure you wear a factor 30 every single day (even in bad weather) to ensure you are providing the newly-revealed skin beneath with adequate protection and nourishment!
