Clinique Perfectly Real Makeup: Daytime Foundation Perfection

clinique perfectly real one

It takes a LOT to get me to love a foundation. I hate heavy, poly-filler formulas that make me look ancient, but I do like my skin to look flawless.

I have high pigment in my cheeks, but I don’t like to look ‘mask like’. I prefer to look fresh and light, but I also want an even complexion. In other words, I want the Holy Grail.

Needless to say, when I turn up at a beauty counter, the poor woman behind it needs to know her stuff and has her work cut out for her. No painting colours on my jaw. No telling me a cakey formula will work and NO SELLING ME THINGS I DON’T NEED.

Fortunately, for when I want to find a great foundation in a hurry there is Clinique.

I turned up on a Saturday morning, trotted out my list of demands and left ten minutes later with a bottle of Perfectly Real Makeup.

Clinique promises that Perfectly Real will:

“Provide the perfect match and a natural finish. Skin looks real but better. More even, perfected, healthy. It neutralizes redness, ruddiness and imperfections with just enough coverage that feels weightless on skin.”

I don’t know about perfect match (which Clinique says happens with micro pigment technology – surely if that were true there would be little need for the 14 shades on offer (unless by perfect match you mean they match it) but this is a very nice foundation.

Ideal for daytime, it glides on. You need to apply a fair amount but it leaves the skin looking radiant but not shiny, and nicely even. I still have to build the colour up a bit around my cheeks but that is ok.

After about four hours the colour had gone patchy around my t-zone so this isn’t a long-last foundation, but it does look really nice. If you were happy to touch up at lunch, this is an ideal office base.

That said I wouldn’t be happy with the lasting side for a night out, so I would definitely say use this for school runs and work-days.

The slightly balmy formula feels quite lovely on the skin – it’s quite nourishing so I think dry skins would benefit from this.

Verdict:

I quite like this. It isn’t my favourite ever but for a ‘real’ finish it is a good value product. It retails at £22.50, which is an extremely good price for such a soft finish.

Not a showstopper, but a definite contender for day-to-day staple!
