Sisters not Twins

Girl getting ready to go out

I have an observational obsession… It’s eyebrows, more specifically, other people’s eyebrows. As a teenager of the late ‘90s I plucked my eyebrows to death as was the fashion. With the trend fixed on thin, delicate brows, my poor un-trained plucking skills left mine horrendously patchy and looking like some sort of crap Morse code.

Feeling Unpretty

acne

So I’m aware that I bang on about my skin quite a lot and have posted before, and well, I’m about to do it again. However, this time I feel as though I’ve found something that has genuinely worked possibly ending my acne quest.

Hands that do dishes

For as long as I can remember I’ve had the hands of a 90 year old man. On one of my very first beauty courses, when learning how to manicure, I was told I had hands that looked like they’d worked. I was eighteen. The most work I’d done was try on clothes in Topshop while pretending to stocktake, so not exactly spinning cotton in an 18th century factory. However, my beauty therapy lecturer was a giant hag so I didn’t pay any particular attention.

The art of tea bagging

As a penny pinching cheap skate I love a homemade remedy, and none more so than a tea bag! Constantly tired these days and feeling a million years old, eye cream just isn’t cutting the mustard. If anything, for me, it sometimes makes the whole baggy dark circle thing worse.

Ello, Vera!

Up until last week I’d never heard of Forever Living the Aloe Vera Company. Invited to the launch of a good friend of mine’s new business with the brand, I was intrigued to say the least. Rocking up at her house on a Thursday evening, I’d done a bit of research but wasn’t too sure what to expect. I love organic and natural products, but I also love full scale high-tech scientific ones too with their super-glossy packaging and million pound budget marketing campaigns.

Chop or not to chop, that is the question?

Hair Cuts

(image purchased from Shutterstock)

So I’ve been growing my hair FOREVER. Or at least that’s what I always say I’m doing. Gets a bit long, chop it off, grows and gets a bit long, chop it off. Round and round it goes and I’m never satisfied with whatever cut I have. I’ve had a crop (mistake), multiple bobs (all a mistake. Including a blonde one – this was the biggest mistake of them all.) Three fringes (mistake), what my sister likes to call a mullet (mistake) and how it is now i.e. boring and long (not a mistake, just shit!) Dying it shades of brown (mega adventurous), and kind of ombre but not (have highlights underneath instead of on top), the combination of this and heat styling has left me with split-ends from hell.

Big Bottomed Girls

Increasingly I’m becoming more and more annoyed with boys and their metabolisms! Yes men suffer with their weight too, no doubt about it. However, what bugs me is their ability to lose it quickly by cutting out beer for example, or retain reasonable bodies with zero effort. A woman would need to cut bread (in fact ALL wheat and chuck in gluten too), chocolate (scrap that ALL sugar), and dairy out of her diet to achieve the same result. (Am aware this isn’t strictly true hard-core fitness peeps, but stick with me.)

Dates!

I hate first dates, fact. They're pit of the stomach nauseating in the build-up and sometimes just plain awkward! However, it doesn't help that I have a pretty male sense of humour at times. (Does not go down well, believe me. Wish I was sweet and charming!) Looking all pretty then exclaiming, "waaaay, that's what she said!" generally keeps me staring down from that dusty shelf. Hey, I make myself laugh, and that's all that matters(should really start a cat breeding program though. I think it's time!).

Cinnamon and Honey

image purchased from shutterstock

Fully addicted to Pinterest I came across a pin for drinking cinnamon and honey for weight loss, and seeing as it was New Year at the time I thought I’d give it a go. Still drinking it now, I haven’t seen any weight loss and I never really expected to. This is most likely because I fractured my leg just before New Year’s Eve (walked, I’m mean hobbled, around on it for pretty much three weeks before anyone but me believed it was broken – got to love the NHS) so it’s not like I’ve been able to get down the gym to work off excess lard anyway. Therefore it could work for that, who knows.

Jem and the Holograms

jem-and-the-holograms

Kids TV really isn’t what it used to be! 80s and 90s children’s television programmes were immense. Dungeons and Dragons, Heman, Thunder Cats, Transformers, Brave Star ... I could go on for hours. However, news that Jem and the Holograms is going to be made into a film made my inner child very happy. It’ll be awful of course, but I’ll go watch it regardless.

Hairspray, my mama told me not to use it!

Hairspray

As a woman I feel I’ve been blessed with many, many things. These things involve fine, lifeless grease ball hair that looks crap at the best of times, as well as over-styled, over-processed with dry ends the rest. Add adult acne, the beginnings of crows-feet, dark circles and pigmentation into the fold, and you can see why I have a queue round the block of eligible bachelors clamouring to get to my front door. Full blown knock-out ladies! I’m a total beaut.
